Who We Are
Hawks have keen vision, are intentional and bold, and are undeterred in their goals. There is much for us to learn from the wilder world.
Joanne’s work and life was recently transformed while studying ecopsychology and transpersonal psychology at Naropa University. The blend of Eastern wisdom and traditional Western teachings dramatically altered her existing belief systems. While living with consideration for the environment was always important, Joanne began to experience the complexity of living interdependently with the natural world in a predominantly competitive materialistic culture.
A move to a community undergoing extensive natural gas extraction was heartbreaking as it confirmed a perspective held by many people that the earth’s resources are primarily commodities to be exploited. Her life and work now focuses on how to transform limiting perspectives through compassion and inclusivity, with a healthy dose of ferocious stewardship for the earth.
Joanne’s career began in financial management and her work often was complicit with many attitudes and systems that were harmful to the earth. Her own path of personal growth sparked an interest in coaching and leadership development. She is a certified professional coach, has a Masters in Transpersonal Psychology, and has trained extensively at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. As Board President for Radical Joy for Hard Times, she works to bring beauty to wounded places on earth and in doing so, expand the human heart and consciousness. Her interest and studies in applied ecopsychology, cross cultural practices, somatics, questing in wild nature, and art continue to inform her life and work.
